    Essentials Black Core matboard features a solid black core that along with the backing paper that touches your artwork is acid-free - buffered by an alkaline solution - and is recommended as design accent board for open-end reproductions, posters and decorative framing.

    Opening Size Instructions

    Openings are cut to the size you specify; normally you will want an opening 1/2" smaller per dimension than your artwork. This gives space to hinge and prevents it falling through the mat opening. So, for example, an 8x10 photo would use a 7 1/2 x 9 1/2 opening.

    Sizes are listed by width first, and height second. Example 8" (width) by 10" (height).

    Please make sure that the opening width and height do not exceed the size dimensions.

      Beautiful mats at a great price. Love the white outside with thin black outline. I use these when I do watercolor classes. Fast shipping is appreciated! I will continue to shop here.

      A great way to refresh the family heirloom photos. The photos look new in comparison to the faded 50 year old mats (didn't even know what the original color was). These are crisp and sharp, appear to be excellent quality and arrived quickly even when ordering over the holidays.

      Have placed two orders with this company. With the first order I bought an extra mat as I thought at least one would get damaged in the mail. I should not have been so pessimistic! Both orders were so well packaged you would have to put in a very concerted effort to damage the contents. Both ordered were as described and received in a timely manner, and excellent quality. Not to mention, very reasonably priced compared to other custom mat sites I looked at. Will keep this Canadian company’s info for the next time I need a custom mat order.

      Ordered the ‘polar white’ with black core - and they are not only beautiful, but of excellent quality, Custom cut mats were delivered on time, and very well packaged so they could not be damaged during delivery. Have already placed another order with this Canadian owned business.

      Looks good with a brightly coloured image, an inner mat can be simulated in PS, mats nicely with a 3/16 in. backing

      Appears to be good quality. Was my first purchase here. If I build more frames I will likely buy from here as it is nice to get something from Canada.
