    The opening in a mat board through which the image will show. The window is usually 1/8 to 1/2 inch smaller than the image so the image can be taped to the back of the mat. ie: 4.5 X 6.5" for an exact 5 x 7 photo.

    MatShop uses Artique Conservation 8 Ply Matboard. It is archival quality with a solid color core (same as surface).

    Opening Size Instructions

    Openings are cut to the size you specify; normally you will want an opening 1/2" smaller per dimension than your artwork. This gives space to hinge and prevents it falling through the mat opening. So, for example, an 8x10 photo would use a 7 1/2 x 9 1/2 opening.

    Sizes are listed by width first, and height second. Example 8" (width) by 10" (height).

    Please make sure that the opening width and height do not exceed the size dimensions.

      I got some of these a while back in 8 x 10 with oval opening for classic florals, and am thrilled to be able to get the identical thing, colour and all.
